Makoto Azuma Seeks to Make his LEGO Bonsai Pine Tree a Commercial Product
Jan 27th

Renowned botanical artist Makoto Azuma, who created a Bonsai Pine Tree out of LEGOs a while back, now seeks to turn his creation into a commercial product through LEGO’s CUUSOO program. The tree model walks the line between organic and synthetic, and is a rather intriguing interpretation of natural beauty. The CUUSOO program is a relatively new initiative that accepts creative submissions from the public. If voted up with 10,000 supporters, the design will be made into an official set. With Azuma’s following thus far, the production of the Bonsai Pine Tree model is surely quickly approaching, though perhaps the real thinker is why this fantastic product hasn’t been created sooner.
50 Cent Seeks $261,000 From Sleek Audio Over Botched Headphones Deal
Jan 17th
50 Cent has stepped into yet another legal battle, this time with his onetime headphones partner Sleek Audio. On January 9, he filed suit seeking 1,000 from the headphones manufacturer.
According to All Hip Hop, the latest filing comes just as the Queens rapper won a separate lawsuit against a man claiming he stole Before I Self Destruct.
G-Unit’s front man claims that Sleek Audio never lived up to the terms of their contract for the “Sleek by 50” wireless headphones he was to introduce and promote. He attests that G-Unit LLC and Sleek entered into an agreement in early 2011 but by May, they split.
Additionally, Sleek claims that 50 was the one who ended the business relationship.
50 alleges that Sleek signed a promissory note to pay 5,000 plus interest before July 31, 2011, but failed to do so. Sleek had another opportunity to pay 50 after nabbing over 0,000 via private offerings, and still did not settle the debt. The disagreement went into arbitration following the first filing of the suit last August, in which he was awarded the money, but the rapper has now turned his focus to a court for confirmation of the decision.
Sleek contends that the dispute should have gone into mediation prior to the filing of the lawsuit.

FAMU Seeks To Be Absolved In Robert Champion’s Death, Blames Him For Participating In Hazing Ritual
Sep 11th
Florida A&M University is looking to wash its hands clean of the hazing ritual that led to the death of Robert Champion. The student was a member of the school’s widely known marching band, and died during a trip with the group, last November.
The University filed a motion Monday (Sept. 10) looking to dismiss the wrongful death lawsuit brought on by Champion’s parents, Robert and Pamela Champion. FAMU asserts that Champion was well aware of hazing dangers when he signed a “Hazing and Harassment Agreement” months before his death, acknowledging the “dangers of participating in hazing.”
One of Champion’s fellow band member, has been accused as a co-conspirator in the hazing, while the victim himself has been blamed for not reporting the incident before dying. “It is undisputed that Mr. Champion knew that existence of the danger [hazing] of which Plaintiff now complains, he realized and appreciated the possibility of injuries as a result of such danger, and notwithstanding the opportunity to avoid the danger simply by not showing up at the designated place and time, he deliberately exposed himself to the danger,” read the motion.
Keon Hollis, a band mate who was hazed with Champion, was cited in the motion. According to Hollis, he asked Champion if he was going to participate in the ritual, to which he replied, “Yeah, I just want to get it over with.”
While the filing acknowledges that neither Champion, Hollis, or others involved were “able to predict or prevent this shocking and depraved hazing incident,” FAMU feels that it would be “unfair and illogical” to be held responsible.
In May, 13 people were charged in Champion’s death, 11 of which face a third-degree felony charge for the act. A trial date has been set for October.
Champion, 26, was held back by a female band member as he was hit in the chest, arms, shoulders, and back, with fists, feet, straps and sticks, until he fell unconscious, and later died.

Chris Lighty’s Family Seeks 2nd Opinion On Cause Of Hip-Hop Mogul’s Death
Sep 6th
Although Chris Lighty was laid to rest yesterday, questions still loom about the circumstances surrounding his death. Veronica Lighty has gone on record to state that marital and financial issues were not the reason the Violator founder allegedly took his life. The Associated Press reports that members of Lighty’s family are seeking a second opinion after the NYC medical examiner ruled that the Bronx native died from a self-inflicted gunshot to the head.
Forensic pathologist Michael Baden said Wednesday that he performed the second autopsy at the family’s request. He says he’s awaiting test results.
Baden is paid to give independent opinions on deaths. He has testified in several high-profile cases including the O.J. Simpson trial.
Lighty was found dead in his Bronx apartment with a gunshot wound to the head. The medical examiner ruled it a suicide. But his brother Dave Lighty has indicated that he isn’t sure his brother took his own life.
Lighty’s funeral was held yesterday on New York City’s Upper East Side and the Bronx native was buried at George Washington Memorial Park in New Jersey. Footage from the funeral, which was attended by artists and friends of Lighty including Fat Joe, LL Cool J, Uncle Murda, Mary J. Blige and 50 Cent has appeared online. “He was a jewel and a treasured person in the community,” LL Cool J told MTV News outside the funeral. “Just one of the architects of our culture and he was my friend.”

George Zimmerman Claims Judge Is Biased, Seeks Replacement
Jul 15th
NEWS
George Zimmerman is unhappy with the judge in his second-degree murder case. Judge Kenneth Lester has released the accused killer from custody twice, but Zimmerman is still not satisfied. He has requested a new judge citing bias as the reason.
According to his legal team, Lester is being discriminatory against Zimmerman in his decision to set the 28-year-old’s bond at million after he was found to have lied about his finances, and possibly attempted to flee the country.“Under any definition, the defendant has flouted the system,” Lester wrote about Zimmerman.
Mike O’Mara, Zimmerman’s head lawyer, called Lester’s words “gratuitous,” and “disparaging,” claiming that he set out to attack the former neighborhood watch captain’s character.
Florida law allows a judge to leave a case if one party can show proof that their actions, background, or views will hinder the accused from receiving a fair trial.
Since posting bond, Zimmerman has been transported to a safe house, protected by security. Although the trial is not expected to begin until late in the year, prosecutors have made much of the evidence compiled in the case, available to the public. The most recent documents unveiled include more witness testimony, and inquires into whether or not Zimmerman’s decision to shoot Trayvon Martin, was racially motivated.

NY Governor Andrew Cuomo Seeks To Change “Stop-And-Frisk” & Low-Level Weed Charges
Jun 4th
In a 2011 Associated Press report, 50,000 low-level weed arrests took place in New York per year, more than any other reported crime in the city’s justice system. One out of seven cases in criminal court involved pot, with Black and Hispanic men making up the bulk of the arrested. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has seen enough and is meeting with lawmakers today (June 4) to decriminalize small marijuana possession charges–a move that Mayor Michael Bloomberg opposes.
The New York Times reports that Cuomo will urge lawmakers to amend the “Stop-And-Frisk” law and ask for the decriminalization of possession of small amounts of cheeba in public view. Currently under the law, a person with 25 grams or less of the sticky icky should not get arrested unless it is being smoked or used or in general public view. When suspects are stopped and frisked for other reasons, they’re being ordered to empty their pockets which results in a “public view” arrest.
NYPD commissioner Ray Kelly sent out a memo last fall that said his force would not arrest individuals who produce kush from their pockets or person after being stopped. However, it appears that Kelly’s words have fallen on deaf ears. Cuomo isn’t the only elected official who wants to see changes to the law with Brooklyn Assemblyman Hakeem Jefferies, a Democrat, and State Senator Mark J. Grisanti, a Republican, both producing a bill that would end low-level weed arrests.
“This proposal will bring long overdue consistency and fairness to New York State’s Penal Law and save thousands of New Yorkers, particularly minority youth, from the unnecessary and life-altering trauma of a criminal arrest and, in some cases, prosecution,” said a Cuomo administration official to the Times.
Apparently the city known as a major terrorist target thinks reefer is worth the millions of dollars it takes to charge and arrest thousands over a dime bag.

Family Seeks Justice In Police Shooting Of Unarmed Chicago Woman
May 7th
The murder of Trayvon Martin has heightened media coverage behind unjust shootings, and while accused killer George Zimmerman was arrested for the crime, there are still tons of families fighting for a similar outcome. The latest example comes by way of a Chicago woman named of Rekia Boyd, who was gunned down by an off-duty police officer in late March.
Boyd’s family filed a lawsuit against Chicago Police Department Det. Dante Servin, the man who pulled his unmarked vehicle up to the 22-year-old as she and others stood outside in the Chicago neighborhood known as Lawndale. According to the family, Servin told the group to “shut up,” kicking-off a verbal altercation that ended with Boyd being shot in the head. She passed away at Mt. Sinia Hospital roughly 24 hours after the incident.
Servin has justified his actions by claiming that another man in the crowd, Anthony Cross—who sustained a bullet wound to his hand— was carrying a weapon. The alleged “weapon” was actually a cell-phone. “Rekia Boyd was shot and killed on March 21, 2012, without any legal justification,” said Boyd family attorney, James Montgomery, during a press conference. “Her young life was snuffed out by an aggressive, intimidating police officer who provoked the confrontation and when met with a verbal rejoinder took the life of an innocent young woman.”
This is of course one of many police shooting cases that have resulted in the shooting of an innocent black person. Late last week officials in White Plains, N.Y. announced that officers would not face criminal charges for killing Marine veteran Kenneth Chamberlain. The 68-year-old was shot in his apartment last November, after police stormed the unit.
