John Legend Links Rick Ross To Isaac Hayes
May 3rd

”He Has A Very Soulful Voice”
During in an appearance on “The Russ Parr Morning Show,” singer-songwriter John Legend praised controversial hip-hop star Rick Ross. In commenting on the way Rozay uses his voice, Legend said that Ross is similar to funk/soul legend Isaac Hayes. “I feel like Rick Ross is kinda like a soul artist in a way because the way he uses music is very soulful. I was listening to his album yesterday and he just knows how to pick the right music to put around his voice. He has a very soulful voice. Heâs almost like an Isaac Hayes of Hip Hop or something,â Legend explained. Legend also talked about the struggle of being a songwriter. âThe thing about being a songwriter is youâre working for someone else,â said Legend. âTheyâre your client and you gotta hope that they pick your song. You gotta hope that they make it a single. You gotta hope all these things. And you donât have as much control over your destiny.â |
Rick Ross Tries Acting In ‘Box Chevy’ Mini-Movie
May 2nd
By Sowmya Krishnamurthy
Rick Ross is trying his hand at acting on the small screen. Ross released a mini-movie online today, which he wrote and executive prooduced, called “Box Chevy” starring Tyrin Turner (Caine from Menace II Society) and Dennis L.A. White (D-Roc from Notorious). The duo plan on robbing Rozay, who rides around in a box Chevy for some reason, but their evil plan goes awry quickly.
The film then jumps into a music video showcasing Rick enjoying life in his native Florida. “I started with a Box Chevy, then I got a blue Lexus” raps Ross. Finally, the robbers try and get Ross and … we’ll let you watch and see how it ends for yourself.
Off-camera, Ross was recently photographed with Reebok CEO Uli Becker, although just a few hours earlier it was reported that Becker said about the MMG CEO: “It’s unfortunate because he’s a great guy, he just has stupid advisors around him” The drama stems from Ross being dropped by Reebok as a spokesman after harsh criticism over what many deemed him promoting date rape on Rocko’s “U.O.E.N.O.” (“Put molly all in her champagne, she ain’t even know it/I took her home and I enjoyed that, she ain’t even know it.”).
Ross did apologize, “I dont condone rape.Apologies for the #lyric interpreted as rape. #BOSS,” and added, “Apologies to my many business partners, who would never promote violence against women. @ReebokClassics @ultraviolet.” But it was still too late.

Meanwhile, Jay is doing some good for kids by offering college scholarships to underserved students. The scholarship, pushed through The Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation, covers scholarship money for those who wouldn’t typically qualify for a usual scholarship.
He will be awarding cash to single mothers, children who attend alternative schools, students who have earned a GED, students with grade point averages of 2.0 and students who have previously been incarcerated, etc., but desire a higher educational opportunity.
Rick Ross some type of way gt back into Reebok’s good graces. Because he and Swizz Beatz just had a meeting with the CEO of the sportswear company. No clue what was on the agenda, but are they negotiating a deal to bring Ricky back as a spokesman after dropping him due to his rape lyrics and failure to understand rape culture?
Swizzy Instagrammed the pic saying:

Hmmm….this will be some ish….

Rick Ross – “Box Chevy” (Short Film) [VIDEO]
May 2nd
Rick Ross provides a visual treatment, or better yet a short film, for the energetic lead single from Mastermind “Box Chevy.”
Tyrin Turner, better known as Caine from cult classic Menace II Society, and Dennis L.A., who played D-Roc in Notorious, star in the video as two jack boys looking to get the drop on Rozay and his riches. As the plot thickens, things take an unexpected turn and we see why the Bawse sits atop of his Florida regime.
MMG cohorts like Stalley and the always entertaining Gunplay make cameo appearances in the shots, which break from the story from time to time with scenes of the Miami rapper spitting emphatically infront of his candy-painted vehicle. Director DRE Films also throws a few thick women in the vid for your viewing pleasure.
Mastermind is said to be releasing some time in 2013. See the mini-movie for “Box Chevy” in the mean time below.

Ricky’s Mastermind single gets a visual. My question is, who green-lit this attempt at a “movie?”

Rick Ross Meets With Reebok CEO and Swizz Beatz
May 2nd

Despite Rick Ross being dropped from Reebok, Swizz Beatz posted a picture to instagram of himself with Rick Ross and Reebok Chief Marketing Officer Matt O’Toole before tweeting that there was positive energy in the meeting Ross, Swizz, and Reebok CEO Uli Becker had. Afterwards, a statement by Becker about Ross was released that most likely was connected to the meeting, “It’s unfortunate because he’s a great guy, he just has stupid advisors around him.” Does this mean a second chance for Ross or a final goodbye?

Reebok CEO Condemns Rick Ross’ ‘Stupid Advisors?’
May 1st

By Sowmya Krishnamurthy
Rick Ross’ issues with Reebok may not be over just yet. At the Footwear News (FN) CEO Summit this week, Reebok CEO Uli Becker, allegedly blasted the rapper for having bad people advising his business decisions.
Footwear News reports, “Reebok CEO Uli Becker on Rick Ross: “It’s unfortunate because he’s a great guy, he just has stupid advisors around him.” #FNCEOSummit.”
Earlier this month, Ross was dropped by Reebok as a spokesman after outcry over what many deemed date rape lyrics on Rocko’s “U.O.E.N.O.” (“Put molly all in her champagne, she ain’t even know it/I took her home and I enjoyed that, she ain’t even know it.”). Ross did apologize, “I dont condone rape.Apologies for the #lyric interpreted as rape. #BOSS,” and added, “Apologies to my many business partners, who would never promote violence against women. @ReebokClassics @ultraviolet.”
Nevertheless, Reebok chucked the deuces to Rozay over the bad press. “Reebok holds our partners to a high standard, and we expect them to live up to the values of our brand. Unfortunately, Rick Ross has failed to do so. While we do not believe that Rick Ross condones sexual assault, we are very disappointed he has yet to display an understanding of the seriousness of this issue or an appropriate level of remorse. At this time, it is in everyone’s best interest for Reebok to end its partnership with Mr. Ross.”

”He Just Has Stupid Advisors…”
Uli Becker, the CEO of Reebok, has addressed the company’s highly-publicized termination of its contract with hip-hop star Rick Ross. The athletic apparel brand dropped Ross last month after women’s groups threatened to boycott the company due to the rapper’s controversial lyrics on Rocko’s “U.O.E.N.O.” which referenced drugging a woman and having sex with her. Touching on the situation via a tweet by Footwear News, Becker said that he feels Ross needs better people around him. “It’s unfortunate because he’s a great guy,” Becker said. “He just has stupid advisors around him. #FNCEOSummit” |
