”He Really Needs To Center Himself”
Nicki Minaj and Gucci Mane have a bit of history. The two once shared management, and despite the fact that their relationship has become estranged in recent years, Nicki spoke V-103 about the Atlanta rap star and revealed that she worries about his somewhat erratic behavior. âSo, itâs like I separate Gucci the artist from Gucci the person. Gucci the person is a sweet, loving, carefree, funny, hardworking dude. And so I never really paid attention to anything he said,â Nicki explained. âIn terms of intervention, I think about how talented he is and I kind of wish there was somebody that could step in and say âGucci, if you only knew how special you were. You would take a moment to really just get centered.â I just think he really needs to center himself and not to point fingers because Iâve had moments when I needed to center myself. Sometimes you just need to be alone in a meditating type of place and to just kinda block out all the other noise.â âI think that if he can get to that place heâll be great because nobody can ever deny the fact that he kind of revolutionized a lot of things in the underground mixtape world,â said Nicki. âHe also spawned a lot of careersâ¦He motivated me a lot. I loved being around him, heâs a hustler. And so, no matter what I will always respect Gucci.â |
Nicki Minaj To Mariah Carey On ‘American Idol’: ‘Simmer Down, Sir’

Even though there was a lot of drama leading up to this season of “American Idol,” Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey have managed to stay quite cordial on the show. Sure there have been a few eye rolls here and disapproving looks there, but last night (April 18) is when things really heated up. While the final five girls battled it out onstage to make it into the finals, the divas had their own battle going on the judging panel.
After Kree Harrison’s rendition of the Black Crowes’ “She Talks to Angels,” Nicki Minaj said she disagreed with Mariah’s critique. Mariah (who inspired some of the evening’s song choices) then started to defend what she said as the two talked over each other and her final (audible) words were, “I disagree with your disagreement.”
Minaj, putting an end to the back and forth said, “Simmer down, sir” and continued on with her comments. This was definitely a highlight of the night even though the rapper judge is known for her (seemingly uncontrollable) tendency to call people weird things. And while “sir” isn’t the oddest way she’s addressed people, it’s certainly the last thing we’d think to call one of the greatest (female) singers of our time.
Later in the show, however, Nicki showed some love for her fellow judge when vocal powerhouse Candice Glover sang “When You Believe” by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. Glover’s performance prompted Nicki to recall memories of listening to the song “over and over,” crying because the lyrics really resonated with her. “That is how you do a Mariah Carey-Whitney Houston song!” she added.
Mariah, trying not to get emotional as she remembered working with the late great Houston, looked over at Minaj with a humbled expression. This moment showed that when it comes to judging contestants, the two may butt heads; but that doesn’t mean they don’t show respect for one another. At the end of the day, Queen Barbz is a Mariah fan just like the rest of us—and Mariah knows she’s worthy of the praise.
Rap-Up TV: Fantasia Makes ‘American Idol’ Return, Talks Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey

Fantasia will make her return to the “American Idol” stage tonight, nine years after winning the title. She will perform her new single “Lose to Win,” but she’s not sweating it.
“This is the very first time that I’m not really, really nervous,” says the 28-year-old singer, whose fourth album Side Effects of You is due April 23. “Going back always reminds me of where it all started, which is a good thing. It’s a humbling thing for me.”
But instead of singing in front of Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul, she will face new judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey.
So what does Fantasia think of Nicki as a judge? “Whatever floats their boat. I always believe in change. Everything can’t stay the same,” she tells Rap-Up TV. “The fact that they changed it up, brought somebody else in, a little younger that can relate to the younger crowd and a whole ‘nother different type of music, hey do it.”
As for Mariah, “I would have to say that that was a perfect choice as well. Mariah is a legend. She is music.”
Fantasia has been watching the latest season. “I think that they have some very, very good talent on this year. I will always say that my season was the best season,” she says of Season 3, which produced stars including Jennifer Hudson.
While she wouldn’t name her favorite on Season 12, she is partial to one particular contestant from South Carolina.

Tyga was asked during an appearance on “The Breakfast Club” whether or not he and his girlfriend/baby mama Blac Chyna ever convinced his labelmate Nicki Minaj to join in on any three-way shenanigans. “Nah, we never got that popping but I would like to see that,” Tyga said. When asked if Nicki was like a sister, he was quick to dismiss that notion. “That’s not my blood sister. [laughs] You know what I’m saying?” he said. “Oh yeah man, if the situation allows it. I feel like, we live in a day and an age like, at the end of the day, everybody’s cheating. There’s nobody faithful. And at the end of the day, I’m a rapper. You can go mess with entertainers, ball players, but then after that, it’s like, ‘What’s next?’ A lot of girls get to that level where it’s like, ‘I’m burnt out. I did this — now I just want to chill.’ … I think it’s better for a girl to experience what she wants to do, let her wild out and see where she wants to be instead of just getting a good girl.” |

But we first saw the Jeremy Scott for Adidas bathing suit on Nicki Minaj in her April 2013 spread in ELLE magazine. She paired her photoshoot look with black Salvatore Ferragamo pants and a simple gunmetal link bracelet.
And it seems to be a popular look for spring as Karrueche’s rival she previously Twitter beef’d with, Rihanna‘s bestie Melissa Forde, rocked the exact same suit yesterday during her birthday pool party:

Rapper Posts Sexy New Photos
Nicki Minaj released some new pics from a new photoshoot and, of course, they are smoking hot. The Young Money rapstress is rocking a cheetah, leopard & yellow printed dress that hugs her voluptuous curves–along with some brown caged boots. Nicki has said that this year she would “toning down” her image, and while this look is hardly conservative, she is keeping with the less-is-more approach she said she would taking. She’s certainly gone less “cartoony.” |

We’ve been seeing a lot from Nicki Minaj lately. Last week, she brought us the visual for “High School,” which shows a surprisingly steamy relationship between her and her YMCMB boss, Lil Wayne, and then this Tuesday we just received the music video for “Up In Flames,” a darker cut from Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – The Re-Up. It’s also worth noting that she is featured on “Lay It Down,” the TNGHT-produced bonus track on the deluxe edition of Wayne’s new LP, I Am Not A Human Being II (read our album review here if you haven’t yet), and is nearing the end of her first season as a judge on American Idol. Basically, Minaj is all over the place. Just in case you haven’t been seeing her, though, maybe this new Beats by Dre commercial will catch your eye. Nicki Minaj Debuts Pink Pill in Beats by Dr. Dre Commercial

Nicki Minaj introduces us to her new best friend in the comedic commercial for her pink edition of Beats by Dr. Dre’s Pill portable wireless Bluetooth speaker.
When she leaves the room, Nicki’s sassy speaker comes to life, reprimanding her boyfriend (played by comedian DeRay Davis) for texting another girl. He tries to silence her, but can’t and she rats him out to Nicki, who eventually kicks him to the curb. “Bye bye boo boo!” says the Pill.
