Nick Young’s Case for 2013 Kicks On Court Champion
May 18th
Before we state Nick Young’s case for 2013 Kicks On Court Champion, refresh your memory with his quote prior to the start of the 2012-2013 NBA season: “I may take a year off from the Kicks On Court game. Instead of switching my shoes every night, I might just really stick to the Kobe 8s this season.”
Based on that quote in our Kicks On Court Diaries interview with him, we forecasted a season of consistency instead of a volume of variety in the shoes Nick Young would bring to the court this season. We predicted Nick Young to come back down to Earth with his kicks on court because, after all, most earthlings stick with the same shoe for an entire season.
However, Nick Young proved this season that no matter what he says, the one they call Swaggy P lives to be distinctive on court. One can make an argument that he had more of an impressive Kicks On Court lineup this season than last season when he was crowned the champion – at least we think so.
“I slipped a little bit this season,” said Nick Young. “I was right there in Philly and didn’t wear any of my Barkleys. There was also some special shoes I planned on wearing during NBA Green Week, but the NBA wouldn’t let me because of color. I could’ve worn a lot more.”
Young could’ve worn more, but A LOT more may be a bit of a stretch. 50+ shoes were worn by Young this season – some of which hadn’t seen an NBA hardwood in years. The “West Coast” LeBron III, the Nike Air Baja and the Air Jordan 3 “Flip” were just a few of the shoes Young brought back from yesteryear. He even themed his kicks on court in some instances. For example, he wore the white, red and black Kobe I against Kobe Bryant in Philly this season.
“I wore the Kobe Is against Kobe this season and scored 30″, Young said. “Kobe said to me, ‘I see you young fellow. We need to bring those back.’”
NBA legend Gary Payton also showed Young Twitter love for bringing the Nike Air Zoom GP II back to the hardwood. A tweet from Gary to Nick Young the day after the game read: “Way to rock lil’ homie. Much Love.” – Gary Payton.
Check out how Nick Young fared in our five departments of Kicks On Court Champion voting. Plus, get a full recap of everything Young brought to the court this season, including his limitless amount of NIKEiDs.

Top Element of Surprise Wears:
1. Nike Air Zoom GP II
2. Nike Zoom Kobe I (against Kobe Bryant)
3. Nike Zoom LeBron III “West Coast”
4. Air Jordan 7 “Filbert”
We’ve learned over the course of the past two seasons that Nick Young, himself, is an element of surprise. Therefore, you have to expect the unexpected with him on a nightly basis. Instances like wearing the Kobe Is against Kobe, the LeBron 20-5-5 against LeBron and bringing the Zoom GP II out in a season where everybody had the Nike Zoom Flight ’98 “The Glove” on the tip of their tongues were abrupt shockers.

Kicks On Court: J.R. Smith Starts Game 4 in Air Jordan 5 PE
May 15th
J.R. Smith may not have had his best shooting night in Game 4 against the Pacers, but he did bring the heat. Before switching to the Nike Hyperdunk Low in Indianapolis, Smith rocked a PE pair of Air Jordan 5s. This makeup appears to be a borrowed exclusive from teammate Quentin Richardson, sporting bright orange and purple from his Phoenix Suns days. Check out Smith’s kicks and see who wore what in last night’s double-header in this playoff edition of Kicks On Court.

Love Game: Andre Agassi’s 10 Best Kicks
May 13th
Much like the Fab Five changed basketball, Andre Agassi changed tennis. His rock and roll persona amped up the quiet game drawing the attention of the MTV generation and Hollywood elite. The man behind the racquet scored many endorsements over his career but none as big as Nike. His vibrant signatures changed the image of “tennis shoe,” adding color to a once dull genre. Now that Agassi has once again joined the Nike team, we take a look at his 10 best kicks and hope that we will see a number of them back on shelves soon.

Kicks On Court: Jarrett Jack Rocks KD V Elite in OT Win
May 13th
Yesterday afternoon in Oakland, Jarrett Jack joined the Splash Brothers in an OT victory over the San Antonio Spurs. While the sharp shooting youngsters have stuck to team colorways of the Hyperfuse and Hyperdunk series, their veteran teammate has switched up signature servings from Kevin Durant. The Nike KD V Elite outfitted Jack in a 24 point, 7 rebound, 4 assist performance off the bench, as Golden State tied up the series at two a piece. See what the Spurs and the rest of the Warriors wore yesterday in this installment of Kicks On Court.

DeMar DeRozan’s Case for 2013 Kicks On Court Champion
May 11th
We knew something had changed with DeMar DeRozan when he laced up the Air Jordan 11 Low White/Red in the Raptors’ first preseason game this year. You see, the former USC Trojan had exclusively rocked the Kobe signature line since he stepped foot into the league at the beginning of the 2009-2010 NBA season. Attention-worthy player exclusives and NikeiD versions of the Kobes IV-VII graced DeMar DeRozan’s feet throughout his first three seasons in the league. Yet, this season, DeMar predetermined to switch his on-court rotation up – at least for the beginning of the year.
“I usually wear Kobes for the entire season, but I wanted to start off the season with something different in the process of me waiting on the Kobe 8s to come in,” said DeRozan. “I just tried to go with old retro Jordans that we haven’t seen on the court in a while.”
And he did just that. In Toronto’s first 15 matchups of the season, DeRozan donned a different pair of Jordans every single game, including a few that haven’t appeared on court in 5+ years. The “Black Cat” 4s, the “Fire Red 5s (red sole) and the Countdown Pack Air Jordan 13 were just a few of the rarely-seen Jordans DeRozan displayed on court this season, which should’ve proved to everybody that this guy is not limited to Kobes.
“I’ve always collected classic Jordans and Nikes and instead of wearing them out with casual clothes, I just decided to bring them to the court this season,” DeRozan stated.
Ultimately, DeRozan reverted back to his reliable Kobes and played the last 18 games of the season in the Kobe 8 System. However, he didn’t lace up just any old Mambas. A total of five Kobe 8 iDs and two Kobe VII iDs were worn during this stretch.

Air Jordan 1 White/Black-Red
Top Element of Surprise Wears:
1. Air Jordan 1 White/Varsity Red-Black
2. Nike Air Foamposite Pro “Gem Green”
3. Air Jordan 13 “Altitude”
4. Nike LeBron X “Christmas”
The first 15 games of the season were considered surprises in regards to DeRozan’s kicks on court. We hadn’t seen him consistently wear Jordans since his summer league days in 2009. He gained a great amount of Element of Surprise points when he rocked the Air Jordan 1 White/Varsity Red-Black. MJ’s first signature shoe is probably the least worn Jordan on court today, assumably because of its lack of technology. Therefore, when DeRozan took to the court in these just a month after its re-release to the public, it was definitely a shocker.
