Hip-Hop is going green. In celebration of Earth Day earlier in the week, Big K.R.I.T. performed at the inaugural Broccoli City Fest held at the Washington D.C. Fairgrounds Monday (April 21).
Nearly 5,000 people were in attendance, giving the venue one of its largest crowds to date.
While K.R.I.T. headlined the event, more than 10 local performers also took the stage.
The daylong festival was aimed at educating members of the community, unaware of the benefits of a healthy and sustainable lifestyle choices. In addition to live music performances, the Fest offered various activities including art, dance lessons, and group yoga, the latter of which was led by event partners Sweat Everyday and C4 Performing Arts.
In keeping with the “green” theme, food trucks offered organic and locally grown menu items.
D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray and Rev. Lennox Yearwood of the Hip Hop Caucus also showed their support.

”It Should Be A Celebration…”
Rapper Cam’ron and streetwear clothing brand LRG will be hosting an event in Hollywood tonight (December 20th) entitled “Last Day On Earth.” With all of the buzz surrounding December 21st, 2012 as a predicted Mayan doomsday, the themed event will be held at Hollywood’s Roxbury. LRG will present attendees with gifts and Cam’ron will treat them to a special guest performance.
LRG indicated that the event is to be a celebration, with no gloom-and-doom imagery.
âRather than speculate to whether this will hold true, LRG is preparing accordingly because the âLast day on Earthâ shouldnât be spent worrying. Rather, it should be a celebration of all that has been accomplished prior as well as the promise for what the mysterious future may hold,â representatives from LRG told AllHipHop.

The father-son duo are back at it again–Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith are acting together in the upcoming 2013 film “After Earth.” After tugging at our heartstrings in “The Pursuit of Happyness” back in 2006, 14-year-old Jaden is acting alongside his dad in a more action packed film.
Judging by the trailer of this M. Night Shyamalan directed flick, Will and Jaden are stranded on earth 1,000 years after humans left. Together the pair has to battle alien species and other animal species to return home. This highly anticipated futuristic movie doesn’t release until June 2013. Check out the trailer above.
Like his father, Jaden seems intent on conquering as many fields as his talents can reach. The 14-year-old recently released a new single “Love Me Like You Do” with a little vocal assistance from Justin Bieber. There’s no stopping Will Smith and his ultra talented offspring.

Will and Jaden Smith (who first played father and son in Pursuit of Happyness) have teamed up again for the upcoming thriller After Earth. Directed by M. Night Shyamalan, After Earth takes place on "Earth," but more than 1000 years into the future.
Will and his youngest son play Cypher and Kitai Raige, soldiers who have crash landed on the abandoned planet and must figure out a way to survival. Here’s the catch: everything left on "Earth" has evolved to kill humans.
And with Will’s "Cypher" character injured, Jaden’s "Kitai" must step up to the plate as a soldier and find their rescue beacon. The film will also explore father/son dynamics and Kitai’s need to be validated by his father.
The film hits theaters June 2013.
