”Yes, T-Boz and Chili. It’s Crazy”
J. Cole explained to Charlie Sloth on BBC 1Xtra that his upcoming album, Born Sinner, doesn’t feature a lot of guest hip-hop artists. The Roc Nation rapper did, however, reveal that he has two high-profile R&B collaborations on the project–including one very unexpected one. “I got Miguel, but I also got – this is big – I got TLC on the album,” he said. “Yes, T-Boz and Chili. It’s crazy.” “No [one else] is rapping on the album,” he confirmed. Cole, who has just released his latest single “Power Trip,” made headlines this week when he announced he was moving his album’s release date up to compete with the new project from Kanye West. |

J. Cole was the latest lyricist to grace the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon stage. This time, the Roc Nation MC performed “Power Trip” from his forthcoming sophomore effort Born Sinner.
Backed by The Roots, Cole gave a smooth rendition of the standout jam sans Miguel. Fortunately, Captain Kirk of the legendary band was there to back vocals of the “Adorn” singer’s chorus to give it that live effect.
In other news, light skinned Jermaine recently pushed the release date for Born Sinner forward to June 18 to compete with Kanye West’s sixth studio LP Yeezus. ”I’m not going to sit [here]… I worked too hard to come a week later after Kanye West drops an amazing album,” Cole told Billboard‘s The Juice blog.
“It’d be like, ‘Oh and J.Cole dropped too, a week later.’ Nah. I’m going to go see him on that date. He’s the greatest. So it’s like, I’m a competitor by nature so it was instant, it wasn’t even a thought.”
Hip-Hop lovers can only applaud Cole’s confidence, because that’s what the culture is about. Born Sinner is available for pre-order on iTunes.

”I’m A Competitor By Nature”
J. Cole isn’t afraid of competing with Kanye West. The Roc Nation rapper caused a stir when he announced that he was moving up the release date of his sophomore album, Born Sinner, to June 18th–the same day that West will be releasing Yeezus. “I’m not going to sit [here]… I worked too hard to come a week later after Kanye West drops an amazing album. It’d be like, ‘Oh and J.Cole dropped too, a week later.’ Nah,” Cole told Billboard. “I’m going to go see him on that date. He’s the greatest. So it’s like, I’m a competitor by nature so it was instant, it wasn’t even a thought.” “It’s a definite statement about how I feel about my album, which is confidentâ¦At the same time, let’s not forget this is Kanye West,â said Cole. âHe bets 100, 1,000, whatever the perfect is. J. Cole Says He “Worked Too Hard” To Drop His Album A Week After Kanye West’s
May 21st
Is J. Cole moving the release dateof his new album, Born Sinner, up a week to drop the same day as Kanye West’s latest project, Yeezus, foolhardy or a smart play? No matter your opinion, the Roc Nation rapper is confident he made the right decision.
Cole said competing with Yeezy for the hard earned cash of fans on Tuesday, January 18 was a matter of not becoming an afterthough a week later. “”I’m not going to sit [here]… I worked too hard to come a week later after Kanye West drops an amazing album,” Cole told Billboard‘s The Juice blog. “It’d be like, ‘Oh and J.Cole dropped too, a week later.’ Nah. I’m going to go see him on that date. He’s the greatest. So it’s like, I’m a competitor by nature so it was instant, it wasn’t even a thought.”
But, don’t think the “Power Trip” rapper is snoozing on Mr. West’s talents. He said, ”At the same time, let’s not forget this is Kanye West. He bets 100, 1,000, whatever the perfect is. His track record is flawless. I’m only expecting an incredible album from him. But I know what I have.”"

J. Cole Not Afraid to Compete with Kanye West on June 18
May 21st

J. Cole is making a brave move. The Roc Nation rapper has decided to move up his album release to compete directly with Kanye West.
Cole’s sophomore album Born Sinner was originally due June 25, but will now arrive on June 18, the same day Kanye’s Yeezus is scheduled to hit stores.
Cole said the move was intentional. “Kanye West is one of the greatest artists of our generation. Which is exactly why I’m moving my release date up,” he told Billboard’s The Juice.
Once he saw Kanye’s tweet about the June 18 date, he knew what he had to do. “Instantly the lightbulb [turned on]… it got real. I made one phone call to somebody that would know, just to make sure first. As soon as I got it confirmed, I was like, ‘Yo…’ The idea hit me instantly: ‘You got to go to that date.’”
He looks forward to facing off with his idol on the charts. “I’m not going to sit [here]… I worked too hard to come a week later after Kanye West drops an amazing album. It’d be like, ‘Oh and J. Cole dropped too, a week later.’ Nah. I’m going to go see him on that date. He’s the greatest. So it’s like, I’m a competitor by nature so it was instant, it wasn’t even a thought.”
The revised date is a testament to how he feels about his work. “It’s a definite statement about how I feel about my album, which is confident,” said Cole, whose debut Cole World: The Sideline Story debuted at No. 1 in October 2011, selling 218,000 copies in its first week.
Cole and Kanye won’t be the only artists dropping albums on June 18. Mac Miller’s Watching Movies With the Sound Off and Kelly Rowland’s Talk a Good Game are also slated for release that day.
