Gas mask aficionado Freehand Profit carved up a pair of Air Jordan 4 “Fire Red” to create his latest piece. Inspired by the mask of Marvel Comic’s Ironman, the Air Jordan 4 “Fire Red” Gas Mask features red outlined eyes slots that are similar to its super hero counterpart. This mask also features a unique nosepiece, and the soles are brought together to form a mouth. The “Fire Red” 4 mask was made specifically for the people at Drunk Off Shoes in Montreal, but you can follow Freehand on Instagram and Twitter to keep up with his latest exploits.

The days of simply using a classic colorway to describe sneakers are all but long gone. In these times, quick, relatable nicknames are easier to identify with, allowing a sneaker’s story to be told in a shortened way for a culture used to quickly receiving information. Nice Kicks continues to shed light on some of the most popular nicknames that have helped keep certain sneakers at the top of our collective minds. The stories behind a name usually have more depth than you may initially think, and we delve into those backstories in this week’s installment of Sneaker Nicknames Explained. Be sure to let us know which sneaker nicknames you would like to know the story behind next week.
Nike Air Penny V “Red Eagle”
Anfernee Hardaway’s fifth signature may have come after his playing days were over, but most of the colorways are inspired by his time on the court. With obvious “Orlando,” “Suns,” and “Memphis” releases, many wondered where the brightly colored “Red Eagle” makeup stemmed from. This nickname was in homage to Penny’s high school team, the Treadwell Eagles, in Memphis, Tennessee, who sport a red/white-black school color scheme.

Nike SB pro Eric Koston’s little known alter-ego is actually a pretty avid golfer, leading the Swoosh and the living legend to come together to produce a special edition golf shoe based on his signature model. Dubbed the Nike Koston 2 Spike, this unique shoe sports a classy all-red upper inspired by Tiger Woods’ Sunday Style that is finished with subtle snakeskin embossing to add depth to the waterproof upper. Underfoot, Nike placed the comfortable Lunar Control golf spike outsole in black as well as a matching set of snake-skin printed insoles made especially for this tour-quality, fairway-ready shoe. Unfortunately, the Koston 2 Spike was made only for Eric and will not be available commercially, but atleast nothing can stop us from drooling all over these preview shots after the click.
