In an era dominated by nondescript low-tops, the Nike Air Tech Challenge II’s bold colors made a statement in sneaker culture. With Andre Agassi’s charisma, talent, forthright aesthetic and intangibles, in combination with the talents of Nike designer Tinker Hatfield, they teamed up to create some of the most memorable tennis shoes of all time. The shoe consisted of a strong synthetic leather upper while remaining lighter than most low-top tennis shoes at the time. First making its debut in 1988, the Nike Air Tech Challenge II “Clay Blue” is still an object of desire today.
