Black Man Files $1 Million Lawsuit Against Wal-Mart Over Racist Remarks
May 16th
A New Jersey man has filed a million lawsuit against Wal-Mart for alleged racism. Donnell Battie claims to have been traumatized after hearing racist comments over the loud speaker at a Washington Township location, in 2010. According to Battie, a Wal-Mart employee used the store intercom to request that all black people leave the establishment. As such, Battie is accusing the store of being negligent in failing to control their speaker system. In the years following the incident, Battie says that he has suffered “severe and disabling emotional and psychological harm.”
A spokesperson for Wal-Mart apologized for the occurrence , but the company is known for running into legal problems. In 2010, they faced a billion dollar gender bias class-action suit, and late last year a mother and her pregnant daughter were arrested for attacking an elderly Wal-Mart greeter, inside the store.

Jay-Z Confirms Jay Electronica Album Is On The Way
May 16th
By Rob Markman
Jay Electronica is a bit of an enigma in the hip-hop world and while many fans are still doubting that he’ll actually release his full-length debut anytime soon, his Roc Nation boss Jay-Z is a little more understanding when it comes to his creative process.
“I love that, I want to support that sort of energy. I want people to be creative and not traditional, not just a single [at] this time, this time [and] this time,” Jay-Z told MTV News on Monday, when he was in Philadelphia to announce his two-day Made in America music festival. “You know, he operates at his own time, but the album is really close.”
Hov announced in November 2010 that he signed Elect to his budding Roc Nation label. Jigga insisted then that his goal was to “reintroduce magic to hip-hop,” and a year and a half later, the God MC is still excited by the New Orleans rapping wizard.
Electronica has long hyped his official debut, Act II: Patents of Nobility (The Turn), with gleeful tweets, sending periodic updates on the LP’s progress. In March he messaged fans, stating that the wait was finally over and the album was complete, though he made no reference to any release date. “Dear Believers and Patient Supporters. Thank you for your patience and support. The Album will be turned in Tomorrow evening. The wait ends,” he tweeted.
Still, when it comes to the “Exhibit C” rapper’s sporadic music-release patterns, there is no telling. In April he dropped ”Dear Moleskine.” Before that, in October 2011, it was the Prodigy-assisted ”Call of Duty”, and before that, back in November 2010, there was “Shiny Suit Theory.” It’s not a pace traditionally suited for today’s rap race.
But Jay-Z assures us that there is an album and that it’s pretty damn good, if he does say so himself. “It’s exactly what it should be — it’s amazing. Him as a lyricist is almost scary. He’s scary good,” Jigga gushed. “I’m doing something to it that’s really untraditional, so we’ll see how it works.”

Rap-Up TV: Rye Rye Goes Hard on New Mixtape, Calls for Unity in Female Rap
May 16th
Rye Rye makes her long-awaited debut with her album Go! Pop! Bang!, which lands in stores today. “There’s a lot of mainstream producers, but it’s my flavor,” said the Baltimore MC, who worked with Pharrell, Bangladesh, and Egyptian Lover. “Everything sounds refreshing.”
After nearly two years of delays, she is relieved to finally deliver the project to her fans. “I never was frustrated about it not coming out,” she told Rap-Up TV. “I thought it was a good thing that it got pushed back. I’m not gonna deliver something unless it’s ready.”
Now that her album is out, she is working on a new mixtape, the follow-up to last year’s RYEotpowRR. “My first mixtape was all party,” said the 21-year-old, who sampled Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “Ni**as in Paris” on one of the new cuts. “But this one I’m going into a vibe where it’s just straight hard. It’s just me killin’ straight hard hip-hop beats.”
M.I.A.’s protégée has no beef with her fellow femcees and called for unity in female rap. “I support every female artist in the industry. I feel like if the guys can get along, why can’t the girls? Girls tend to look at everything as a competition,” she said, adding, “I like Azealia [Banks'] movement, I support it 100 percent, and I think everybody’s doing their thing.”

50 Cent Explains Weezy/Floyd Connection

”He’s Been A Part of the Playlist”
Boxing fans have grown accustomed to rapper 50 Cent hanging out with champ Floyd Mayweather in the ring, but during Mayweather’s last fight, pop star Justin Bieber and rapper Lil Wayne were also in the ring. Weezy’s presence raised some eyebrows considering his history of rivalry with 50, but 50 Cent explained why both stars being alongside he and Floyd makes sense. “Floyd has a huge passion for music that people don’t know about,” 50 explained. “It’s a big part of what makes him comfortable and takes his mind off of how hard he has to work to stay being the #1 fighter in the world. With Wayne’s music momentum, he’s a part of that; he’s been a part of the playlist, so it’s cool.” “The pictures, when I’m not paying attention, they take some really weird facial expressions of me,” he said of his appearing angry in the pics with Floyd and Weezy. “I’m like, ‘What the f— was I thinking at that point?’ It’s nothing there to make me feel uncomfortable.” |
