”It Was Definitely A Mutual Decision”
Tia Mowry’s announced departure from “The Game” came as a shock to fans of BET’s most popular scripted show. There is rampant speculation as to whether or not Mowry and co-star Pooch Hall quit or were fired, and Mowry briefly addressed the situation during an interview with Sway In the Morning. “When Pooch feels comfortable enough to talk about it, Iâm sure he will but I can just talk about myself,” Tia said. “Right now I can tell you it was definitely a mutual decision.” “You know what, itâs all good. It really is,” Mowry continued. “Iâve been on the show 5 years. I had a great time on the show. Iâm very happy with what I did. I love Melanie so much that sometimes I forgot to shut her off. There is no hard feelings [but] Iâm here to talk about my book and âTia & Tameraâ. |

Timbaland, Mary J. Blige React To Singer’s Death
Celebrated “Queen of Disco” Donna Summer has passed at the age of 63 after a battle with cancer. The legendary singer had kept her illness relatively quiet and the news of her passing came as a shock to the entertainment community. Summer was one of the most significant voices of her era and one of the few disco stars who’s fame and acclaim transcended the genre. Summer’s hits ranged from the dancefloor classics “The Last Dance” and “Hot Stuff,” to sultry bedroom music like “Love To Love You, Baby” and Top 40 pop like “She Works Hard For the Money.” Her work has been sampled and covered by numerous artists across numerous genres. On Twitter, musicians reacted to the news of the diva’s passing. “This cant be tru. i cant believe this RIP Donna Summer. at a lost 4words,” tweeted superproducer Timbaland.
“I’m getting tired of these 3 keys…RIP this time to Donna summer an amazing trailblazer!” Q-Tip tweeted, referencing the rash of legendary musicians that have passed recently. Quincy Jones produced some of the singer’s best work, and shared his condolences on her passing. â”Rest in Peace dear Donna Summer. Your voice was the heartbeat and soundtrack of a decade.” |
Usher Talks A$AP Rocky ‘Hot Thing’ Collaboration On Looking For Myself
May 17th
By Carter Maness
Usher’s anticipated Looking 4 Myself album is set to drop in June, and he recently sat down for an exclusive “MTV First” interview with Sway Calloway to discuss a couple of the interesting collaborations that fans can expect. A big one for the younger generation will be the Pharrell-produced “Hot Thing” – a record that features gritty Harlem rapper A$AP Rocky.
“I made a connection with A$AP Rocky, which I felt was really unique,” explained Usher. “You know, I really wanted to create something that I felt would work in both our worlds. A fun record that would be a little bit irresponsible. You gotta just let it go. No apologies.
Pressed to discuss how the two collaborated, the singer revealed that he was never in the same studio with A$AP. “Oddly, we were not in the same studio together,” he said. “You know, we were actually able to go back-and-forth.”
For Usher, part of staying current is exposing his fanbase to relevant artists that might not be on their radar. “It’s all about that – every album to make an introduction that might not necessarily be on your list,” he said.
Usher also recently swapped collaborations with Maybach Music Group boss Rick Ross. The pop singer appears on the Rico Love-produced God Forgives, I Don’t single “Touch ‘N You,” which premiered earlier this week. Ross returns the favor on Usher’s “Lemme See.”
“That record really called for his voice,” he said about Ross’ appearance on his album. “It was instant.”

Lil’ Kim Talks Nicki Minaj, Azealia Banks, & Scott Storch on ‘The Breakfast Club’
May 17th

Lil’ Kim didn’t hold back when showed up for an interview with “The Breakfast Club” on Power 105.1. The Queen Bee, who is currently playing shows across the country on her “Return of the Queen” tour, had the studio buzzing about her beef with Nicki Minaj, relationship with Scott Storch (“I would have married him”), claims about Biggie’s mother Voletta Wallace (“She didn’t know him”), and latest scuffle with Azealia Banks. Watch the heated conversation below.
On Junior M.A.F.I.A.: “A majority of them is the reason why I went to prison. I’m not gonna say all of them because there was one person who basically did what they were supposed to do. But it is what it is at this point.”
On Scott Storch: “I love Scott. I would have married him. He’s a good person. I don’t even think he knew who he was talking to when I reached out to him. He has so many horrible people around him. Scott spoiled me, he treated me like a queen, but the thing is he thought he had to do all these lavish things. We were living in Coconut Grove… And as soon as we went to Miami Beach, we started arguing and fighting and everything was horrible. Scott wanted to marry me, he gave me a huge pink diamond ring and it killed me to give it back. I was like yes, but not now. He was so upset.”
On why they broke up: “I was on my way to prison and he wanted me to move to Miami officially. I didn’t see the reason I had to move out there when I had all this going on.”
On Foxy Brown: “I don’t even know her. I don’t know who she is these days. I wouldn’t even know what her voice sounds like.”
On her relationship with Biggie: “I would never get involved deeply like that with a married man. I know he loved me to death, but it’s just not a good aura.”
On Voletta Wallace: “Big’s mom doesn’t know Biggie. And she barely knows Christopher. She used to kick him out daily. She did not care to know him or get to know him. Don’t get me wrong, he loved his mother and I’m pretty sure as a mom she loved her son, but she didn’t know him.
On Nicki Minaj: “How come when I come up at these places, they wanna ask me these questions, but they don’t wanna ask her? She has a way of trying to avoid the situation and ya’ll let her do it, but it’s OK. The last time ya’ll asked her was probably when it was very fresh. [Charlamagne] was on her album so it only made sense.
“She started releasing all these records doing her vocals the way I did my vocals. I played a record for Slim called “Automatic.” It’s a St. Tropez, dance type of record. Three years ago I played him this record. On her new album, she has a song called “Automatic” and the song is so similar to the song that I played for Slim.
“Whether my fans would have liked that sound or not, it was my sound. I brought that sound to the table. The problem with her is she was very catty with it. I never had a problem with her. I was always nice with her—always. She was a very obnoxious person, but I was always nice with her.
“Every single record she’s made was coming at me. Everybody who knows music knows in that Puffy record ["Hello Good Morning"] she was coming at me. I didn’t say nothing about this chick at the time. She was coming at me in all the records she was doing, the Jay and Kanye West ["Monster"].
“I’m not saying she’s a horrible artist, but I definitely think she’s overrated. She’s not a horrible artist to me at all.”
On putting an end to their feud: “It’s not gonna happen… You will see. Everything in the dark comes to the light.”
On Azealia Banks: “I never met this girl a day in my life. I never talked to this chick, she don’t know what I sound like. I don’t know what she sound like on the phone. I think it’s in chicks’ contracts when they come out, you gotta go at Lil’ Kim.”

”Every Day I Give Blessings”
Rapper Lil Kim seems to have put music on the back burner, but the veteran rhymer revealed in an interview just why there are other things in her life that are taking her attention away from recording. Kim is committed to helping her family, and she revealed just how deep her love for her relatives goes. “People around me know I do good. Mom lived with me until I went away,” she says. “She’s now in Delaware. My father had ex-wife troubles. Also health issues. He shakes. Spills coffee and food. We have to cook for him, pour his juice. His sickness wasn’t diagnosed, but it’s a small case of Alzheimer’s. I know about ‘Honor Thy Father and Mother.’ My father and I were estranged, but I’ve taken him in. He lives with me. I’m very blessed. I live in New Jersey. Every day I give blessings. I know God’s helping me.” |
