Busta Rhymes Growing Back His Dreads After Hitting New Turning Point

By Maurice Bobb with reporting by Rob Markman

Back in 2005, Busta Rhymes famously cut off his trademark dreadlocks for spiritual and personal reasons, but after rocking a Caesar haircut for years, the Brooklynite decided to ditch the fade and bring “Sampson back.”

“That growth signifies that new defining moment in my life,” Busta told MTV News on the VMA red carpet Sunday night. “I’m at another turning point. We pressin’ the reset button.”

One of the biggest reset buttons the rapper born Trevor Smith pressed was on his musical resurgence, which began with signing with Cash Money Records. Now, the kinetic MC is poised to release his new LP, Extinction Level Event 2, and is exited about the lead single, “Thank You,” which features Lil Wayne, Q-Tip and Kanye West.

“Everything I’ve done up to this point was basically like the boot camp training,” he added. “Now, motherf–ers is in trouble. And it just feels right karmically, spiritually, physically, mentally, everything that I do is based on a vibe and a energy and if the moment is what’s calling for it, we move on it.”

Although the single hasn’t been released yet, Busta took advantage of all of the song’s participants being in New York for the VMAs to shoot the accompanying video with Director X behind the lens.

Tracy McGrady Retires From The NBA [VIDEO]

Tracy McGrady, aka T-Mac, has retired from the NBA. The former high flying and scoring guard made the announcement today on ESPN.

Reports Sports Illustrated:

“It’s been 16 years playing the game I love,” McGrady said on ESPN’s First Take. “I’ve had a great run, but it’s time for it to come to an end.”

McGrady, 34, played for Toronto, Orlando, Houston, New York, Detroit, Atlanta and San Antonio during a career that started in 1997. He didn’t play a regular-season game in 2012-13 but appeared in six playoff games with the Spurs after signing in mid-April following a stint in China. He told First Take that the “door’s still open” to play overseas again.

The ninth pick in the 1997 draft, McGrady made seven All-NBA teams and won the 2001 Most Improved Player award. He had been 10th among active players in points, with 18,381.

McGrady was well on his way to a guaranteed spot in the NBA Hall of Fame before injuries drastically lessened his effectiveness (career averages of 19.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists) on the court.

Think T-Mac will get into the Hall, though? Let us know in the comments and check out some of his greatest plays, and most ferocious dunks, in the following pages.

Watch the Preview of Daft Punk’s “Lose Yourself to Dance” Video

In the same fashion that “Get Lucky” was unleashed via a minute-long preview on SNL in April, Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams have teamed up again for the visuals of “Lose Yourself to Dance.” Donning again the chrome-plated helmets and flashy sequined blazers of their last outing, this minute-long preview shows the duo reprising their role as modern disco stars, jamming the electronic chords for an enthusiastic crowd. All this is delivered in light of Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories album, which in many respects has lived up to its hype as a dance floor staple. Enjoy a preview of the video above, and look for the full video to appear sometime in the near future.

FAMILY AFFAIR: LaLa, Carmelo & Kiyan SPOTTED Shopping At The Grove

 photo wenn20597436_zpse685560e.jpg

LaLa & Carmelo Anthony have been spotted…together…for the first time in a while.  With La’s hectic career schedule and Carmelo fresh off a trip to China and ramping up his new clothing line (which he’s rocking), the two seem to have been leading separate lives.  But they decided to skip out on the MTV VMAs and chill out with Kiyan back in L.A.

Pics of their family day at The grove inside….

Reality star LaLa, who just debuted her new clothing line 5th And Mercer, and her husband Carmelo seem to be getting back in the swing of coupledom.

The twosome were spotted arm and arm with their 6-year-old son Kiyan shopping it up at The Grove this weekend.  Putting all those marriage-on-the-rocks rumors at bay….for now.

The fam also hit up Universal Studios together on Friday.  And since Kiyan is back in school for the fall, La posted a pic of papa Melo going over his homework with him on Sunday morning:

Fat Joe Begins Prison Sentence, Debuts ‘Darkside 3’

Fat Joe

Fat Joe is headed behind bars today to begin his four-month sentence for tax evasion. But before checking in, the Bronx rapper penned a farewell note to his fans and left them with some new music.

The 43-year-old was sentenced in June for failing to pay taxes on million in income between 2007-2010, totaling a tax loss of 8,038. He is scheduled to be released in late December, just in time for New Year’s.

He also dropped his album The Darkside 3 for free via Rap Radar. The 10 tracks include the Action Bronson-assisted single “Your Honor,” with production from DJ Premier, 9th Wonder, and Cool & Dre.

Listen to Joey Crack’s parting gift below.

Maybach Music Group – Self Made Vol. 3 Album Cover & Track List [PHOTO]

Maybach Music Group are gearing up to release the third installment of their Self Made series.

With Rockie Fresh now in the clique’s fold, the house that Rick Ross built have delivered a few noteworthy tracks from the compilation album. Meek Mill’s “Levels” and Gunplay’s “Gallardo” are club oriented while songs like “Poor Decisions” and “Oil Money Gang” are easier listens.

A well balanced track list could make this MMG’s best group offering yet, though they don’t have the same momentum as their previous two outings. And we’re not sure if that will change due to the highly anticipated LPs set to release next month.

Guest features on the project include Yo Gotti, Birdman, Lil Boosie, Pusha T, Lupe Fiasco, J. Cole, and deceased Dreamchasers rapper Lil Snupe.

See the artwork and track list for Self Made Vol. 3 below.
